Featured Profile: Mark Clinton
Growing up on Sydney’ s Northern Beaches, it was only natural for Mark Clinton to fall in love with the ocean. From an early age, clean waves and glowing pink sunrises had me captivated, motivating me to pick up a camera and record what I saw. As time drew on and my desire to see new places grew, I spent my time traveling through Europe and South East Asia with the aim of documenting my experiences.
WHAT'S INSIDE YOUR LANGLY?
Canon 5DIII, 17-40mm F4, 35mm F1.4, 50mm F1.4, 85mm F1.8, 135mm F2 and a range of filters and cards litter the side pockets.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO EXPLORE?
My favourite trips so far have been the spontaneous ones. The thought of not knowing whats around the next corner motivates me to keep moving.
WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION?
I draw my inspiration from my everyday surroundings. I've been lucky to grow up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia where I’m surrounded by jaw-dropping beauty and constant photographic opportunities. The internet has also been a great resource to help plan my next trip and with popular social media platforms like instagram it’s so easy to be inspired by others who live on the other side of the planet in such contrasting environments to my own.
FILM VS DIGITAL?
I personally shoot digital and although I rarely shoot film theres just that distinct look to each type of roll that no digital preset could ever replicate.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PHOTO?
I don’t feel I have one photo that stands above the rest, yet. I think my most recent trips have helped increase my skills on both a photographic and personal level. Going to the South Island of New Zealand late last year really saw my photography at a better standard, and I hope with the more I travel I can appreciate all of my photos, both good and bad.
